I'm back.

It's been a while since I posted anything here. I was a bit stuffed on modeling after two major projects last winter. Now I have regained interest and have started writing again. After a month into the long dark winter season, I have a Airfix Spitfire Mk 22 completed and one Revell Junkers Ju 88 on the workbench. I also tested a new putty and colors from Life Color. Look for new entries here in the near future.

  1. Hi. I was wondering if you would possibly be able to help me match a color. It is a railroad color for great northern 'big sky blue " scheme here is a link.http://www.gnrhs.org/rs28_page_8.htm I need to match the Gray called GN gray. i suspect that it may be near to RLM 74 but I am color blind so I am not exactly sure. If you look at this pic you can see it best. it is the dark gray on top. If you scroll down to the third picture down you can see it best .http://www.gn441.com/bigskyblue.html . Thanks. Phil

    1. I know nothing about railways colors, but a quick look at the pictures tells me that RLM 74 could fit the gray color of the roof. paint on a piece of scrap plastic and ask a woman (usually good color vision) if the color is similar to those in the pictures.

  2. Thanks.. My favorites have been airplanes but I had railroads in the back of my mind and finally bought some last year. Interesting you mentioned a woman should be better judge of color. I wonder why. By the way, here is a larger scan of the color Im interested in:http://www.gnrhs.org/gn_gray_rgb.JPG I checked the rgb values on various paints and found that Its closes to model master engine gray except engine gray is too light. http://www.art-paints.com/Paints/Glass/Model-Master/International-Military/Engine-Gray/Engine-Gray.html Im very interested in your comment that Tamaya fx 61 is a good substitute for RLM 74. when I read the description of it it says it is a dark green. Anyway- I will go out and get a bottle of RLM 74 and Engine gray. Thanks. I'm 50, American, from Minnesota, live and work in Vietnam , and can speak your language as I studied it in school and have been to stockholm a few times and have some friend there. Interesting blog page you have. thanks.
